Before the summer holidays began Design Office were given the exciting opportunity to take part in a unique creative project with some of the students from Grove School & College and during the summer, while you may have been jetting off for some relaxation in the sun, we have been busy doing what we do best – producing and delivering those creative ideas! Over a four month period we have worked alongside Grove students to understand their creative vision, before spending the summer holidays creating and implementing that vision to ensure that when they returned for the new school year, the fruits of their labour were waiting for them.
Grove School & College originally came to Design Office looking for a new identity for their school's canteen. While the students would be the primary user of this canteen on a day-to-day basis, Grove were also looking to open the facility to the public and therefore needed an individual identity for it. Of course this task would have been no problem for Design Office, but we wanted to go one step further and involve the students so that not only would they have something to look forward to, they would have something to be proud of too.
During the first meeting our Managing Director, Kevin Edge, generously suggested that he could engage the students to take ownership of the rebrand by giving some of his time to them, complimentary of course, in order to run creative focus groups and recreate 'The Apprentice', through which Design Office and Grove School & College would collectively develop a new identity for the cafe. Grove obviously snapped up this idea and before long a group of their students were completing creative tasks set by Lord Sugar (aka Kevin) in the hope of not getting fired!
Not only did Design Office visit Grove School & College, the Grove students were invited into Design Office, and with the help of Giovanni's (rebranded by none other than Design Office ourselves!) were shown what fabulously fresh food tastes like. It was during this focus group the students started to think about Italian names for their bistro and finally Caffe Boschetto was born ('boschetto' being the Italian word for 'grove').
After completing the focus groups our team at Design Office had a new logo, colours and fonts to work with and throughout the summer created a range of graphics for Caffe Boschetto including vibrant wall graphics, chic window frosting and branded panels for the exterior in the Pantone colours chosen as part of the rebrand. Prompt designs allowed us to meet fixed deadlines, ensuring that using our Seiko Large Format Press our printing team were able to print the graphics in the Pantone colours chosen as part of the rebrand. From there our experienced sign fitters were able to pay a final visit to Grove School & College to fit all of the graphics, all before the students returned!
